Er robotapparater virkelig her for å bli?

To response the concern in the title, robotic appliances are absolutely right here to stay. We are seeing a lot more as well as a lot more every year, so expect to see new as well as improved versions of existing robotic appliances, in addition to brand new concepts in the coming years.

Massachusetts to Melbourne: charm Down Unda’

Written by Nicole
What does an American charm addict do when she finds herself living a world away from her favorite products and familiar haunts? Why, she learns the lay of the land, of course, and discovers a world of new charm possibilities.

Late last year my husband and I became American expats living abroad when we made the relocation to Australia from the U.S. for his new job. I knew about our big journey months in advance, so I did the best I could to prepare and studied anything and everything I could about the land down unda’ before we arrived; however, I made two fatal mistakes.

First, I never fully realized just how expensive things would be down here, and second, I was unprepared for how long I’d have to wait for makeup collections to make their big debuts here after being released in the States.

As a woman of substance, I have my needs. among them: facial moisturizer, hair products (loads of ’em), perfume, nail polish, and anything relating to MAC, Benefit, Clinique and Philosophy. Not long after moving, I was already hitting the bottom of my assorted elixirs and potions, wondering what I was going to do.

I realized that I could either A.) Skype my mother and ask her to send a care package my way, or B.) venture out into the city of Melbourne to find much more permanent charm solutions. Gone were the days of Cheese-Itz and Dunks’, so I figured it was also time to broaden my horizons and revamp my charm artillery.

The first thing to go was my sought after container of Origins GinZing Eye Cream; I needed to find something just as good at combating my puffy under-eye circles. In the States, the cream sells for $29.50 USD, but here it sells for a whopping $64.00 AUS! With the us dollar on par with the Australian dollar, I just couldn’t justify paying much more than double for the same thing.

I searched high and low for hours in Mecca Cosmetica (heaven), The Body Shop, L’Occitane and several other local pharmacies and department stores. during my quest, I kept happening upon a brand by the name of Jurlique, which I’d seen before in Sephora but never really gave much thought.

It’s a homegrown brand here in Australia, and the company prides itself on using organic ingredients. The price for a tube of Jurlique’s Herbal recovery Eye cream ($52.00 AUS/$40.00 US) wasn’t as bad as GinZing’s, and I also figured I ought to start using things I’d be able to find anywhere in Oz.

Arnica, the active ingredient used in Jurlique’s Herbal recovery Eye Cream, claimed to fight my tired, puffy eyes, and I was up for the battle. I have to say, I’ve been pleased with the results.

I’ve been using the cream because last November and like it just as much as GinZing. Both products include the same amount of cream — 15ml — but the one from Jurlique has a much longer shelf life. We’re talking 24 months versus 6. You be the judge.

I, like Karen, have wavy hair that can go as mad as Medusa in mere seconds when exposed to humidity. I don’t even attempt to blow dry it when the forecast calls for much more than 55% humidity; it’s just not worth the time or the arm strength.

My former hairdresser, Laura, knew the texture and wicked ways of my hair, so she introduced me to Moroccan Oil back in 2008. Not only did I fall in love with the scent, but I also fell in love with the fact that it kept my frizz in check on those really humid days. Alas, I ran out of the travel-size bottle I brought with me here and didn’t bring any spares, but equipped with the lessons learned from my previous adventure, I went out to my local hair provider and plunked down $34.95 AUS for a 100ml bottle of One n’ Only’s Argan Oil.

It has a similar consistency, color and scent as Moroccan Oil and comes in a travel-friendly plastic bottle, instead of a glass one. It was another win-win — the price was right, and I’ve been very pleased with the resulting smooth, shiny hair.

The next thing to go, unexpectedly, was my trusty eyelash/eyebrow comb from Sephora. I purchased it ages ago, but it eventually crumbled somewhere between Boston, Vegas, Miami, Amsterdam, Singapore and Melbourne. With as much as we’d been traveling lately, I’m really amazed I didn’t have even much more casualties inside my makeup bag.

This time I chose to head over to Myer (a local department store), a mere walk away, and perused their assorted high-to-low-end options. Restless and weary, I wandered past Benefit’s Brow Bar and was stopped in my tracks when I found this little beauty.

Tweezerman teamed up with benefit to create this retractable eyebrow tool — the mascara-type wand keeps my brows in line, and it’s useful for separating my lashes before curling. It sells for $12.00 in stores and online in the US, but it costs twice the price here.

60 ml flasken kostet meg $ 45 AUS ($ 24 tilbake i 50).

La oss bare si at jeg vil begjære det litt lenger.

Facial Sunscreens: Allie Mineral moist NEO vs Clarins UV plus HP

It’s officially summer today! So this is your annual tip to wear your sunscreen every single day!  Let’s have a look at 2 facial sunscreens that I’m currently enjoying:

• Allie UV Mineral moist NEO SPF 50+ PA++++
• Clarins UV plus HP Sunscreen Multi-Protection Tint in Light

I’ll review each sunscreen and do a quick comparison of the two but I will say that I like both – they serve slightly different purpose and both have pros and cons. First, let’s look at the one I gotten from Japan last year:

Allie Mineral moist NEO SPF 50+ PA++++
This is also called “Allie EX UV Protector Gel”, from parent company Kanebo.

The main reason I gotten this was that it was mostly a mineral based aka physical sunscreen. I have a preference for physical sunscreen considering that they’re normally a lot more photostable and work right away upon application, whereas chemical ones require a wait time of 20 minutes prior to sun exposure. The problem with physical sunscreens is how they look on the skin – they give that ghostly white cast (especially Zinc) and look horrible under makeup.

99% in Japanese…
I had a love affair with Japanese sunscreens for lots of years because of how lightweight and undetectable they were under makeup. However, it seems that they were able to avoid the dreaded white cast by using only chemical sunscreens. It’s very tough to find Japanese physical sunscreens but there are a few out there. I compromised by getting the Allie Mineral moist NEO sunscreen which is a mixture of physical (Zinc Oxide) and chemical (Octinoxate, Uvinul A Plus, and Tinosorb S) UV filters.

It was love at first use with this sunscreen! (it made my favourites recently) The texture is so lightweight, it felt like a gel lotion that’s not greasy.

It’s not a watery texture that is normal of a lot of Japanese sunscreens – I actually like this lotion-y texture as I didn’t feel like it was drying out my skin. This sunscreen is water, sweat and sebum resistant and lasts really well on my skin.

It does have a minor dewy finish but it doesn’t get oily over the course of the day. One added bonus is that I find this sunscreen acts like a primer – it helps my makeup apply a lot more smoothly and wear longer.

Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 9.45%, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (Octinoxate) 7%, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (Uvinul A Plus) 2.7%, Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine (Tinosorb S) 0.05%
Inactive Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Alcohol, Octyldodecyl Myristate, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone, Butylen Glycol, Sodium Acrylate / Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isohexadecane, Triethoxycaprylilsilane, Methicone, Polysorbate 80, Xanthan Gum, Nylon–12, Methyl Trimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hyaluronate, Laminaria Japonica Extract, Soluble Collagen, royal Jelly Extract, Averrhoa Carambola leaf Extract, Coix Lacryma-Jobi (Job’s Tears) Seed Extract

While don’t like that this consists of chemical UV filters, especially Octinoxate, but I do love that the physical sunscreen used in it is Zinc Oxide which has the broadest UV protection of any single UV filter. One odd thing I observed is that nowhere on the packaging does it indicate the expiry date.  I looked everywhere!  I’ve noted when I purchased this and my best guesstimate is an expiry of 2018 (erring on the side of early). I gotten this large 90g tube for ¥2,800 (approx $33.35 CAD) – it also comes in a 40g format for ¥1,400 ($16.70).  This is made in Japan.

Fordeler:
• No white cast
• Water, sweat and sebum resistant
• feels moisturizing
• langvarig
• Acts as a primer

Ulemper:
• consists of alcohol
• Not 100% physical UV filter
• tough to find outside of Asia

Stash worthiness: 9/10

Clarins UV plus HP Sunscreen Multi-Protection Tint SPF 40 in Light

I’ve found that in recent years, Western brands – especially those from France – are coming out with lots of options for physical / mineral sunscreens. one of the ways that they’re trying to improve the look of the mineral UV filters is by adding a tint to the formula to help get rid of the white cast. and for the most part, they do really well. I’ve used the tinted ones from La Roche-Posay and Consonant Skincare in the past, and checked the offerings from Avene and Coola.  I made a decision to get the Clarins one when I asked the SA at buyers drug Mart for her recommendation of a mineral sunscreen.

The expiry of this sunscreen is clearly stamped onto the label.
She encouraged this one can act as a light foundation as well. She was ideal – the tint has enough coverage that it acts as both my sunscreen and foundation. I generally wear this one the weekends for a light coverage. If I want additional coverage, I top it off with a bit of BB cream (which also supplies added UV protection).

The formula is very runny and the product needs to be shaken up prior to application (there’s a metal ball inside the bottle to mix the liquid).  There is a perfume-y scent to this product that is pretty strong initially but doesn’t linger.  The finish of this sunscreen is semi-matte and lasts very well on the skin, even through sweat and heat.

The shade I have is in Light, which is quite peachy and not all that light in tone. I’m around NC20 and it looks quite evident if I apply a generous layer (as instructed on the bottle!)  And that’s one of the downfalls of tinted sunscreens – the colours available won’t match every skin tone.

In buy to make this colour work on my face, I apply only a light layer or else it’s very obvious. Which indicates I’m likely not applying enough sunscreen to successfully secure myself from UV rays. It would be wonderful if Clarins used a broader range of colours but I don’t see that happening any time soon – as it stands, in Canada this is only available in Light and Medium.  However, I saw online that it was available in Deep as well:

Active Ingredient: Titanium Dioxide 7%
Inactive Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Aqua/ Water/Eau, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Polyglyceryl-3 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Alcohol, Aluminum Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, CI 77491/ CI 77492/Ci 77499/ Iron Oxides, Sodium Chloride, Peg/Ppg-18/18 Dimethicone, CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide, Phenoxyethanol, PEG/PPG-20/15 Dimethicone, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Hexyl Laurate, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Mica, Tocopheryl Acetate, Parfum/ Fragrance, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Maltodextrin Crosspolymer, Disodium EDTA, Butylene Glycol, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Benzyl Salicylate, Cucumis Melo (Melon) Fruit Extract, Geraniol, Biosaccharide Gum-4, Citronellol, Thermus Thermophillus Ferment, Benzyl Benzoate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Lapsana Communis Flower/ Leaf/ Stem Extract, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Camellia Sinensis leaf Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Rhodiola Rosea root Extract, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

I must note that Titanium Dioxide is the lesser of the 2 physical sunscreens as it doesn’t secure against the full spectrum of UVA rays (the ones that cause premature aging).  This retails for $42 CAD for the 50ml bottle and is made in France

Fordeler:
• No white cast
• Semi-matte finish
• long wearing
• 100% mineral / physical UV filter
• tinted formula acts as light foundation

Ulemper:
• very limited colour range (no fair or dark options)
• consists of alcohol
• Does not block full spectrum of UVA rays
• Fragranced

Stash worthiness: 8/10

Comparison between Allie vs Clarins

• Allie is colourless and can match all skin tones (+ Allie)
• Clarins is 100% mineral UV filter (+ Clarins)
• Allie is unscented (+ Allie)
• Clarins is much easier to purchase locally (+ Clarins)
• Allie supplies broad spectrum UVB and UVA protection (+ Allie)
• Both do not have white cast (tie, both winners)
• Both long wearing, water and sweat resistant (tie, both winners)
• Both consist of alcohol (tie, both losers)
• Allie is made in Japan and Clarins is made in France (neutral)

The Allie Mineral moist NEO edges out Clarins UV plus HP Multi-Protection Tint for me considering that it supplies a broad spectrum protection without any white cast and is suitable for all skin tones.

A few facial sunscreen tips:

• goal for SPF 30 or above

• use a separate sunscreen instead of relying a moisturizer or foundation with sunscreen – usually you’re not applying enough moisturizer or foundation to supply sufficient UV protection

• general guide is to use “two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter of skin” – what does this mean? around 1/2 teaspoon for the face, but of course this amount varies depending on the size of your face!

• try to apply sunscreen as your last layer but it might not be possible when you wear makeup. I layer my face products as follows: serum, moisturizer, primer (if using), sunscreen, foundation, powder.  I like to wait 5 minutes after I apply my sunscreen before applying my foundation.

• Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen while you’re outside – sunscreens degrade with direct exposure to the sun. A general guide is to reapply every couple of hours at minimum.

I wrote another post on sunscreens a couples of years back showcasing other facial sunscreens – check it out here. I love trying out new sunscreens, can you tell?  I’m still on the hunt for a 100% mineral broad spectrum facial sunscreen.  The best I’ve found so far is the Consonant Skincare best Sunscreen SPF 30 – I’d like to find something that has a higher SPF.  What’s your much-loved facial sunscreen that you would recommend to me to try?

Out with the Old, in with the New: rich cream Eyeshadow in advanced

I gotten the rich cream Eyeshadow in advanced back in February.

It was to replace one more cream eye shadow that I’ve had for ages – I’ve had a possibility to wear the rich eye shadow in different methods now, here’s a evaluation as well as comparison between the two.

The old one in concern is the TiGi Longwearing Crème Eyeshadow in brown Sugar:

Hva? You didn’t understand that TiGi made cosmetics? Yup, they do! as well as their products are fantastic. It’s a pity they’re not a lot more commonly distributed – I believed TiGi had stopped creating makeup however it appears like they just revamped the line. I gotten this when trade tricks was clearing out their whole TiGi cosmetics stock for 75% off. This cream eye shadow usually retailed for $24 for 4g, however I snagged it for $6.

I’ve had the TiGi Crème Eyeshadow in brown Sugar for about 2 years as well as wear it either as alone, or as an eye shadow base for powder eye shadows.  It has a minor mousse texture, fantastic pigmentation, as well as extraordinary staying powder. It’s one of my go-to products if I want to pack lightly for overnight stays as well as don’t want to fuss with much makeup. I don’t even requirement to utilize an eye shadow clean with this product. A wipe of the sponge tipped applicator over my lids, blend with fingers, let it set as well as I’m done.

Sadly, this product has been purged since the product has established a odor that’s a telltale indication of it going poor – it was purged back in July. as well as even a lot more tragic is that TiGi has discontinued this specific product!

The rich cream Eyeshadow in advanced is a lighter brown taupe colour as well as best for daily wear.  It retails for $19.95 for 5g of product.  I understood ideal away that it wouldn’t be a shade dupe for the TiGi brown Sugar however a taupe is a taupe, I wasn’t complaining!  These are the type of colours that work well as a single shadow eye look.

At very first I believed this was made by Judd, however the name is really Judo. Whut.
It is available in a glass bottle with what appears to be an eyedropper applicator – however the manage is not made from rubber – it doesn’t capture at all – it’s just difficult plastic as well as shaped like that for show! The “dropper” is truly just a flocked applicator.

LUSH explains this product as:

Creamy, smooth as well as long-lasting, advanced is a shimmering taupe cream eyeshadow. It blends well with other colors, as well as can be used as an eyeshadow, liner, or whatever else you can imagine.

Here are swatches of both:

The rich cream Eyeshadow does not online as much as its insurance claim of being long using – it doesn’t last in any way on my lids!  Sure, it is creamy as well as blends well however it creases as well as fades extremely on my eyes. as well as it occurs quickly, within an hour of using it on my lids (over eye primer), the cream shadow already shows indications of both creasing as well as fading. Here are the same swatches as above, after it has set (15 minutes, just to be sure) with a cotton swab dampened with water scrubed across both swatches 3 times:

The rich wiped off after the very first pass, I did 3 passes just to see if the TiGi would yield. The TiGi is absolutely budge-proof – any type of smearing you see in the photo is from the rich shadow transferring – the only method to eliminate it is with oil or cream cleanser. considering that I’m stuck with the LUSH, to help prolong its wear time, I wear it on top of a primer as well as an one more cream eye shadow as a base (which type of defeats the function of the rich being a cream shadow!), however even then, it fades a lot. It’s a genuinely disappointing product thinking about it has truly high scores online, as well as it isn’t precisely cheap. I would not suggest this!  Too bad it’s not a great replacement for the TiGi… I’m keeping an eye out for long using cream shadow in a great taupe colour.  Any recommendations?

This was my very first rich makeup product, I’m not sure if I’d get any type of more.  Have you tried rich makeup?

No Brushes RequiredI just recently stayed overnight at a hotel as well as wished to pack the most very little amount of cosmetics with me.  I truly didn’t even want to fuss with makeup brushes so I made a decision to packBare sminke som jeg kan bruke uten utnyttelse av sminkebørster.

🙂 Takk for alle godt ønsker forrige uke!

Patience Is a virtue MAC Cleanse Off Oil/Tranquil makeup Remover/Cleanser Doesn’t have

I’ve been wanting to try MAC Cleanse Off Oil/Tranquil (a makeup remover/cleanser) for ages, but each time I came close to bringing a bottle home with me from a MAC counter, something appealing would always steal my attention away. much more typically than not, it was something sparkly, or pink, or sparkly and pink.

But I bet I still would have pulled the set off anyway if it hadn’t been for the price… Thirty dollars for a 5-oz. flaske? Fuggedaboutit.

The new $10 MAC Sized to Go version of Cleanse is harder to ignore. It packs 1-oz. of the same oil-based makeup remover/cleanser into a handy, TSA-approved bottle. other than the smaller size and the fact that this bottle’s clear (the larger one is blue), the products are exactly the same. In terms of value, however, the larger bottle is a much better deal ($6/ounce instead of $10), but it’s also too large for carry-on air travel.

Designed for dry, “mature” and/or stressed-out skin, Cleanse is one of two cleansing oils in the MAC skincare line. If you’re sensitive to mineral oil, it doesn’t include a drop. Instead, it includes a bunch of botanicals like sea turf extract, peach leaf and bisabolol (a colorless oil derived from chamomile; used for hundreds of years in cosmetics for its purported anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties).

The full-size 5-oz. bottle costs $30; the 1-oz. MAC size to Go version costs $10

Cleanse, even the larger size, appears ideal for busy schedules because it’s fast. It breaks up my makeup even quicker than my go-to Clinique Cleansing Balm, which is also quite fast.

To use it, I gently massage two pumps worth, an amount about the size of a quarter in my palm, onto my face with a little water for about 30-45 seconds before rinsing it off. That removes just about everything from my foundation, powder and sunscreen to long-wearing lipsticks, gel liners and waterproof mascara, all without stripping my skin or leaving an oily residue behind.

It also has a lovely, light orange scent I really like.

Although I think it’s an above average cleanser and makeup remover, I’ve been using it mainly to remove makeup, and I follow it up with my favorite all-purpose facial cleanser, viewpoint Purity Made Simple, which costs considerably less per ounce (there’s a 3-oz. bottle for $10, a 24-oz. bottle for $40).

My most significant issue with Cleanse has to finish with my eyes. I’ve gotten a bit of it into them a few times, and my vision became cloudy for a minute or two (as happens in some cases with oil-based makeup removers). I probably won’t continue using it to remove liner/shadow along my waterlines.

But for all over else on the face, MAC Cleanse is a quick cleanser that rinses clean without drying or irritating my sensitive skin. It hasn’t caused any breakouts yet (knock on wood!), and I think it would be the ish if it didn’t cloud my eyes.

PRICE: $10 for a 1-oz. Sized to Go bottle; $30 for a 5-oz. full-size bottle
AVAILABILITY: The smaller Sized to Go bottle is coming soon to MAC freestanding stores; the full-size bottle is available now at MAC counters, stores and also online
MAKEUP and charm blog RATING: B+ (expensive relative to other first-class cleansers, and it doesn’t agree with my eyes)

Chanel våren 2009 Makeup: The Aqualumiere leppestifter
